Nike was a company that was started by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. Phil was a track star at University of Oregon and Bowerman was his coach. They started that company and first called it Blue Ribbon Sports. The Nike name became official in 1971. They got the name for Nike from a greek goddess that stood for victory. They started by selling shoes out of the back of a car at track events. They had a student from Portland State University design the swoosh logo for the company. Nike now has it’s headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. What started out as a small company selling shoes out of a trunk is now making millions of dollars.
